ARCAM
ARCAM (Amsterdam Centre for Architecture) is the obvious starting point for an architectural voyage of discovery throughAmsterdam. Simply walk in and ask a member of staff for information. The ARCAM staff will usually be able to answer any question you might have about architecture and city development and if not, they will point you in the right direction. They can also provide you with excellent tips for city walks. If you prefer to map your own route, delve into the shelves full of books, magazines, brochures and maps.
An architectural centre deserves an extraordinary building. And that is exactly what architect René van Zuuk has designed. The glass and aluminium construction on the Prins Hendrikkade waterfront can barely be described in metaphors. A folded up ear? An organically shaped flower petal? In any case, a building that makes you think about shapes, and the possibilities of curves and straight lines.
