ARCAM
ARCAM (Amsterdam Centre for Architecture) is the obvious starting point for an architectural voyage of discovery through Amsterdam. Simply walk in and ask a member of staff for information. The ARCAM staff can usually answer any question you might have about architecture and city development and if not, they can tell you where to go. They can also give you good tips for city walks. If you would rather find out for yourself, delve into the shelves full of books, magazines, brochures and maps.
An architectural centre deserves an extraordinary building. And that is what architect René van Zuuk certainly designed. The glass and aluminium construction on the Prins Hendrikkade waterfront can barely be described in metaphors. A folded up ear? An organically shaped flower petal? In any case, a building that makes you think about shapes, and the possibilities of curves and straight lines.
