Gassan Diamonds

For four hundred years Amsterdam has been known across the globe as the ‘City of Diamonds’. In fact, the brilliant cut, which originated in Amsterdam, is also known as the ‘Amsterdam cut’. If you want to find out all about carats, colors, clarity and cuts and learn some of the history of this Amsterdam craft at the same time, join one of the free guided tours held seven days a week at Gassan Diamonds. This family business is situated in a historical factory in the Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat. Diamonds have been cut and polished here since 1879. Recently Gassan designed a new cut with no fewer than 121 facets instead of the usual 57! You can see the diamond-cutters and goldsmiths at work during the tour.
