Resistance Museum

Have you always wondered what you would have done during World War Two? Then a visit to the Verzetsmuseum (Resistance Museum) is well worth the trouble. In the imposing hall, full of metres-high photographs of street images, small peeking holes and personal stories, the past feels very close. So close in fact that you can feel what life must have been like during the war, and that is a huge achievement on the part of the museum. You seem to be walking through the 1940s and feel the dilemmas ordinary people faced at the time.

You can visit the Verzetsmuseum on a number of levels. First of all there is the big picture. This paints a general picture of a small country surprised by the war and in which the atmosphere becomes ever more grim. Then there are the viewing cases and half hidden display cases. You literally have to go and search them out to peek at what happened in secret in those days. And finally, there are the books with personal stories, full of small events and heart-wrenching details.
