Plantage Sunday
On some Sundays a year, there is a Plantage Sunday. Various institutions organize special events for the occasion.
The upcoming Plantage Sundays:
October 16, 2012 – Autumn Plantage
January 20, 2013 – Winter Plantage
April 28, 2013 – Spring Plantage
July 7, 2013 – Summer Plantage
October 20, 2013 – Autumn Plantage
Do you want to ecape the dreary autumn weather or just enjoy the beautiful autumn colors? Both are possible during the Plantage Sunday! On Sunday, October 14, the Plantage organises two autumnPlantage activities. Take a guided tour through the work of impressionists and Vincentvan Gogh in the Hermitage, explore the Plantage neighborhood led by a guide and immerse yourself afterwards in the craft of diamond cutting in Gassan Diamonds. For the little ones there is the Autumn Plantage for Children: after visiting the exhibition Sal & Lori and Circus Sea, children learn how to be a real circus performer in the children’s circus in The National Maritime Museum.
Previous Plantage Sundays:

On Sunday, July 8, the youth was put in the limelight. There was plenty to do. Of course there were nice (family) exhibitions, but they could also cut out a full size whale at the National Maritime Museum. Or to be taught in the Moluccan war dance Tjakalele Alifuru in Tattoo Museum. After a visit to the Tropenmuseum, children were playing the Caribbean steel drum as the best. And those who prefered nature in drew, went on a world tour along tropical palms in the Hortus or cuddled mice in Artis.

On Sunday April 1st we shake off the winter. The institutions of the plantage are offering special spring packages. Walk along budding trees in Artis, discover rare tulips in the Hortus, draw spring landscapes in the Rembrandt House Museum, laze in the spring sunshine on the roof of Nemo or enjoy lyrical love songs in the Tropentheater.

The Winterplantage took place on Sunday January 22 . It was possible to escape the freezing cold or just to enjoy the beautiful winter weather. Plantage Sunday was be both! On Sunday January 22 the cultural institutions offered special winter packages: Hot chocolate with whipped cream after a great winter tour at the Hermitage, toast the new year Gassan Diamonds, enjoy high tea and hot jazz in Carré or dream of Italy during an olive oil tasting in the Hortus.

On October 9, 2011, the plantage was discovered from the water. Water is an important part of the plantage. Countless waterways surround and cross the most beautiful and greenest area of Amsterdam, the Amstel, the IJ, old and new canals. Walk along the locks and bridges, you can sit on the waterfront. The plantage Sunday was all about the intimacy of the eastern part of the city with water. You could cruise through the Jewish Cultural Quarter, go behind the scenes of the Amsterdam Music Theatre, cruise from Gassan Diamonds to the Hermitage, Purify water in NEMO’s Waterrijk or go on a guided tour through the catacombs of the Artis Aquarium

The Plantage is not only a beautiful area full of culture, but children have lots to do as well. On Sunday, July 3, the youth was put in the limelight. Kids could take Kungfu lessons in the Tropenmuseum Junior, look at real diamonds at Gassan Diamonds, watching plants watching in the Hortus, create an icon in the Hermitage, bake bread in the Jewish Historical Museum, paddle on the roof of NEMO, make a missile shoot in the Artis Zoo or take a children’s Workshop in the Rembrandt House Museum.
