Theatre
The Plantage area has always had a connection with the theatre. In the nineteenth century the area developed into an entertainment centre. There was always something on. Some of the main theatres included Park Schouwburg, De Plantage Schouwburg, Schouwburg Frascati and Artis Schouwburg – which was later relaunched as Hollandsche Schouwburg: there was a full programme every weekend.
